How I: Made a Full Wig with a Lace Closure (pics)

Hey guys!  So as promised, I will be kinda doing a walk through in pictures on how I created my wig using a lace closure.  This was the first time I have ever worked with a closure so I was a bit nervous/anxious/conscious (whichever word you want to use) while making this and I also took a very long time creating it.  I wanted it to be as close to perfect as it could be.  I am quite pleased with the outcome because I just knew I would just ruin it.  The hair that I am using all comes from Virgin Glam and its the Malaysian Wave.  The closure is 16" and the wefts are 14", 16" and 18" inches.  Let's look at some pics!

First thing, I used a Dome cap (Sally's beauty) and a regular nude or flesh toned stocking cap (local BSS) for the base of this wig.  Dome cap for the actual construction and the nude cap to help aid in making my part look more realistic.
I then used some push pins (local fabric store) to hold the lace closure in place while I sewed it down.  I used my regular stitch method that I would use in doing a sew in.

Afterward, I started at the base of the cap and started sewing the wefts in place as I would normally do.  i did not use the fold over method with the weft, I cut them to size and sewed them on individually.

I sewed all the way up to the top of the closure so that the hair from the closure could cover the top weft.

I decided since the nude stocking cap a had thicker reinforced band around it to pull it underneath the cap and sew it down so that I wouldn't have the indentation line showing through the lace of the closure.

I then sewed some tracks along the sides of the cap and up underneath for added fullness and to ensure that if it were a breezy day that there would be no issues with seeing the cap from underneath.

That's pretty much it.  I tried to go one day curly and couldn't do it.  I just straightened the hair using my Jilbere de Paris Flat Iron (Sally's Beauty) and used some Flexi-Rods (local BSS) and it came out perfect.  I only used Clairol creme 30 developer and a lightening pack to lift the ends and I shaped the hair (later on) to frame my face.  No deep layers.

before I straightened it
I took some pics which I posted in a previous post.  Let me know how you like it or if you have any questions!  Also, are there any tips that you would like to share on how you would have done this differently!  Let me know!
